La Prairie Skin Care Review

Tuesday, August 30, 2016

It was a Friday and I was at work on my birthday. A few of my coworker-friends gave me beautiful flowers and a tasty slice of cake! Later a birthday package arrived from another friend. I opened the box and inside was a bottle of La Prairie luxe cream! Cool, I thought. I have to be honest. I have never heard of La Prairie before. (unlike the popular La Mer) The words "skin caviar" definitely caught my eye. My coworker Chelsea ran over to see what the fuss was all about. She had never heard of it either. I put the box away and quickly got back to work. My mornings are usually super busy.

Moments later I heard ... 'oh my god that cream is $400' what the ...

Chelsea googled it. Stunned, I decided to google it too. Sure enough, oh my god that cream is $400. What in the world does it feel like to put a $400 facial cream on your face that's equivalent to a round trip ticket from New York to Los Angeles? A first class upgrade fee? A hotel stay at a four or five star hotel? A six course dinner at a nice restaurant? or VIP seats to see Beyonce?

I will say this. A little goes a long way so although the price seem a bit much, trust me it will last for a very long time! Now, lets get back to the cream. Yes, I have a very generous friend who thought I would fully appreciate this and boy did I! The first night, after I washed my faced I couldn't WAIT to slap this on. What in the world was it going to do to me? Here's what it says online:

This lavish cream by La Prairie is legendary. It is a lifting and firming phenomenon infused with caviar extract to help support natural contours, profoundly improving the appearance of skin's elasticity and tone. Unique proteins create a transformative satiny smoothness and a silken texture, while the brand's exclusive Cellular Complex allows skin cells to become rejuvenated and thrive. Skin is firmed and lifted.

It a nutshell, it makes your skin feel hella smooth and look crazy flawless. You wake up, flawless / Post up, flawless / Ride round in it, flawless / Flossin on that, flawless…

Now sometimes when you buy something new, especially a skin cream, it's really hard to see what a difference it's making right away. Sometimes I don't realize how wonderful a product is until I stop using it. Same goes with this product. After weeks of using it, I would look at myself in the mirror and think ... "does my skin look any different than it did a few days ago?" I wasn't sure until I went to work one week. I was walking down the hall and I ran into someone I knew who complemented my skin. Later on that day, someone else complemented me saying that my makeup looked so nice and that I was "glowing." I've been wearing this same foundation I wear all the time (which is amazing by the way) but on this day, I was glowing. You know why? That damn skin cream that's why! It had to be the reason because other than that I wasn't really doing any different.

So, in closing ... is it worth purchasing? Sure, if you have $400-plus to spare why not. If you want to tell your husband, boyfriend, wife, girlfriend to splurge on you, why not. Is it life changing? I don't know. But, it's definitely an investment in your skin. Like I mentioned, a little goes a long way. This product will last you a very long time.

M.A.C Pro Longwear Nourishing Waterproof Foundation

Monday, August 29, 2016

So, back in college I thought foundation was meant to cover ALL your imperfections so I purchased products that were very heavy - dare I say cakey? Products that would give me a ton of coverage. The problem was, these products often made me look like I had a pound of makeup on, it wasn't flattering and didn't give me a natural look.

Now that I'm older, I've learned a lot more about makeup, makeup application techniques and I take better care of my skin. I also eat a lot healthier. The more you can make your foundation look like skin, the better. This is one of the reasons I absolutely love the M.A.C Pro Longwear Nourishing Waterproof Foundation (NC 45)  - it looks like your skin! A little goes a long way. You don't have to apply very much. I mostly use this product to even out my skin tone. Honestly, you can't really tell that much of a difference from when I'm wearing it and when I'm not wearing it. It just makes my skin appear even, smooth, and a little more flawless.

Did I mention it's waterproof? This is especially important in the summer when you sweat! This means you won't be sweating your makeup off. I recently did a volunteer event with my job and we had to build a brand new playground in under three hours on the hottest day in Boston. It was HOT! I looked around and my coworker is literally dripping in sweat. I was hot too, trust me. She turned to me and said "How the hell is your make up still holding up in this weather? You literally look like you did this morning before we got here." meanwhile I was working my tail off trying to put this slide together under the beaming sun. It was the foundation. It's just that good - it held up! I'm sold. I've been wearing it for about a year now and it's my favorite.

The only con to this makeup is that sometimes it transfers especially if you don't set it. It's creamy! It's similar to the consistency of a tinted moisturizer but with better coverage.  Set this ish or else! Once it sets, however, transfer is rare. If you don't set it well enough, you might find some of it on your collar which is the most annoying pain so just make sure to use a great setting powder. Once I'm done applying it (usually with a beauty blender sponge) I like to use the M.A.C. Prep and Prime Fix + to set it and forget it.

What's your favorite foundation? Let's chat about great setting powders too! Comment below. By the way, you can check out my makeup for yourself. Follow me on instagram @JetSetJonesy and on the Snap @LuvJonesy

Travel Bucket List: Hello Barbados (50 Shades of Blue)

Monday, August 15, 2016
The luxury of Barbados brings many tourists to the Caribbean every year, and with its colorful culture and foodie scene, Barbados offers a lot more than beautiful blue waters. Did you know? Barbados gets many of its traditions from West African and British cultures. Your Barbados adventure will begin at Grantley Adams International Airport. From there, look forward to festivals, sporting events, and much more!

When I arrived to Barbados, I couldn’t wait to check out my room at the Coral Reef Club, an intimate, tropical paradise spread across 12 acres of flower-filled gardens. Talk about luxury! This family- owned, five-star resort is located on the west coast of Barbados, merely a 30 minute drive from the airport.

When I wasn’t spending my day lounging by the pool or beach, I was enjoy pampering at the resort spa, which offers a variety of spa services including massages and facials. On my very first day, I enjoyed lunch at the restaurant on the property for a delicious West Indian meal and a cool glass of rum punch! Seriously, the best rum punch I’ve ever had.

The next day, I took a tour of St. Nicholas Abbey, one of the most historical landmarks in the Western Hemisphere. The 400 acre plantation has over 200 acres of sugar cane fields. I saw so many beautiful antiques, some dating back to the 1800s, still preserved in the home. To learn more about the home you can take advantage of a complimentary guided tour (subject to availability) which includes a short film on its history.

The best part of the tour – the rum!  If you didn’t know, Barbados is world- famous for its rum and St. Nicholas Abbey is the place to sample it because it has a long tradition of producing it. While I was there, I had a chance to explore the distillery where they create the rum. The most interesting fact I learned about St. Nicholas Abbey is that they use a traditional distillation process on the rum, the same process they’ve used for more than 300 years – wow!

If you’re visiting Barbados, you must visit Hunte’s Garden, aka the best location for an engagement proposal (just sayin!) I got a chance to meet with the owner, Anthony Hunte, a really interesting British man who made his home in Barbados. We talked about everything from rum to Rihanna! When you arrive to his garden, he has a sign on the chair that says "Please Ring the Bell." Once he hears the bell, he magically appears out of nowhere and greets you! I’m sure he heard me loud and clear because I didn’t realize the bell was so heavy and I dropped it. Luckily, it stayed intact.

The best part of my trip was lunch at the Cliff Beach Club. D-E-L-I-C-I-O-U-S! Do you hear me! I thought I was in the South of France. The beautiful view, the vibe, the food, the people! Just amazing.

I started with the lobster bisque, which was poured table-side, served with a ciboulette cream! To be honest, I had no idea what ciboulette cream was but I figured it had to be good and it was delicious. Next, the spicy spaghetti vongol, which was prepared using fresh local seafood. My waitress was awesome, she warned me about the spice so I put it to the side and boy am I glad. It was super spicy!

Later that evening, I went to Mullins Beach Bar & Grill to listen to live music! Kevan Sahai, a local musician who plays at the bar, reminds me of a mix between Bruno Mars and John Mayer. He’s amazingly talented! I could only hope whoever found Rihanna, discovers him too because what a talent. I danced all night long singing songs and mingling with a diverse crowd of locals and tourists.

I didn’t have a chance to jump on the Jammin Catamaran Cruise the following day, instead I had to jump on a flight off to my next adventure. I’ll definitely go back to experience this because what better way to enjoy the beautiful waters of Barbados than by boat? Since I arrived on Saturday, I missed the Friday night fish fry at Oistins, another must on my list!

Oh Barbados, you’ll forever be one of my favorite destinations.
