IT'S A WIG! ... MY WIG EXPERIENCE

Friday, August 29, 2014

I'm sure many of you know by now my hairstory. I've written lots of features on my hair in the past like
this one, and this one. For those that don't know about it, here is a quick recap. I think around 2008 I highlighted my hair and then highlighted it again honey blonde. It looked great but it dried my hair out and eventually I had to cut it to my shoulders to get all of the damage off. At the time I was using a relaxer but was extremely careful about managing my hair with the color. I decided to stop relaxing my hair until my hair was less damaged but eventually realized I no longer needed to use a relaxer and have been perm free for six years. Yipee!

I haven't had much of a desire to color my hair until the Ombre sensation began. I absolutely love the way Ombre hair looks! Love, Love, Love! I desperately thought of ways I could achieve this look without damaging my own hair. I tried clip ins, I could obviously get a weave (but I've never had one before), or I could try a wig! A wig would allow me to try it without commitment and I could wear it whenever I wanted to for fun. I thought why not! I decided to try It's a Wig HW High Ari Wig in the color 3590 available for purchase in beauty supply stores nationwide. If this is something you are planning on wearing every day all day then I suggest purchasing a human hair wig. Since this was more so for fun and occasional appearances, I purchased the less expensive synthetic wig. The one thing people dislike about synthetic wigs is that the hair can be shiny. I made my wig less shiny by spraying it with Dry Shampoo spray.

When it arrived it came with a bump and a braid at the top much like the photo above. I personally didn't like the bump so I removed it as well as the braid. I put my hair in a wig cap and  pulled out the front part of my own hair to make it look more realistic. I have A LOT of hair so it was actually very difficult to get it in the wig cap. It's already long, so I tried to wrap it and pin it and then apply the wig cap on my head. If you are serious about wearing a wig then I suggest that you try and braid your hair. After struggling for a bit, this is what the end result looked like!

I decided to wear it on a night out with friends. A few people thought it was clip ins, no one thought it was a wig, which was great! I loved it! I was a bit hot wearing this in the Summer but I'd definitely wear it again in the Winter with a cute hat to change up my look one night for fun. Wearing a wig is great because I was able to achieve the look I wanted without coloring my own hair.

Stay tuned because I'll be posting a video of myself soo wearing this wig on my YouTube Channel.

THE NEW MAKEUP GENIUS APP IS ... GENIUS!

Thursday, August 14, 2014

This week I discovered the First Ever Virtual Makeup Tester app, Makeup Genius, by L'Oreal Paris. The app instantly allows you to apply makeup onto your own reflection in real-time. Makeup follows your face as you move and the results are quite amazing. When you shop at high end makeup stores such as Sephora or MAC typically they have "testers" which allow you to test products before purchasing. At most drugstores such as CVS, Walgreens, and Target you don't have the ability to do that. Since L'Oreal products are sold at drugstores it makes it difficult to select the correct lip color shade, the perfect blush, or eyeliner. Makeup Genius is a FREE app, yes FREE that allows you to test products on your complexion to see if it's the perfect match. I think this APP is a genius move by the company! Often times I'm afraid to take a risk and purchase a product that I'm unsure would work well with my skin tone such as a bright lipstick color. This app would allow me to test out the color before purchasing and if I thought it looked nice then i'd be more inclined to get it.

On a less serious note, the APP is also just a lot of fun to play around with. I saw men using it for fun on Instagram and people using it on babies as well.  If you are unfamiliar with makeup or how to apply it properly it's also a great way to get familiar. I recently tested the app one morning in my apartment and loved how my makeup turned out. To watch the video check out my INSTAGRAM page and make sure to follow.

WEEKEND CHRONICLES

Wednesday, August 6, 2014
Earlier this year I decided to create a "New York Food Bucket List" which consisted of all of the restaurants and locations that I wanted to try at some point while living in New York. It's so easy to forget about that fabulous brunch spot your friend told you about, or the name of the cupcake company so and so uploaded to Instagram five months ago. Luckily, my food list is super handy to help me remind me of all of the places I'd like to go. On that list recently was Thompson Square Bagels, specifically because of their Birthday Cake Cream Cheese. Sounds intense right? It's sooooooooooo good!

Summer stage is an amazing Free Concert series in various parks around New York City. Grab a blanket, a friend or a date, sit back and relax. Click Here to check out the full line up this Summer! When I attended the event over the weekend, I snagged a rose thanks to Pro Flowers who had a promotion going on because its National Romance Month. Did you know that? I didn't.

Some selfie action at the Jeff Koons exhibit in New York City.

I checked out the Jeff Koons exhibit at the Whitney Museum in New York over the weekend. Jeff Koons is an American artist known for his reproductions of banal objects—such as balloon animals produced in stainless steel with mirror-finish surfaces. In a nutshell the man is amazing, creative and provocative! Bank of America customers have free access to museums in NYC the first of every month so I wanted to make sure I caught this exhibit before it was over. I think my favorite piece of the day had to be his 10-foot tall Play-Doh sculpture on the 4th floor. I watched as children visiting the museum beamed with joy when they laid eyes on this beauty. Not so fast ... no touching! I admit, even as an adult it was difficult for me to resit the urge.

My friend Kara had a buy one get one free coupon from Baskin Robins. We decided to try the NEW Oreo Nutty Salted Caramel flavor which was AMAZING! This delicious new addition is made with vanilla ice cream swirled with a salty caramel ribbon, OREO® cookie crumbles and honey-glazed peanut pieces. It was seriously YUMMY! Run there, don't walk and try this then go work out.
I can't believe it's already August! Sigh. September will be here before we know it. Summer went by so quickly. I still have lots of things I want to do before it's over. I still need to get over to the Highline in New York, I have some more roof top drinking to do, I need to try out a few more brunch spots and possibly go white water rafting.

FREEMAN FEELING BEAUTIFUL FACIAL POLISHING MASK - CHARCOAL & BLACK SUGAR REVIEW

Tuesday, August 5, 2014

I absolutely love adding masks into my weekly facial routine. I've tried a variety of masks over the years and have discovered a few favorites along the way. Have you read my recent review of the world's most power facial mask? Click Here.  Freeman Feeling Beautiful Facial Polishing Mask, in Charcoal & Black Sugar is a mask that I discovered through social media. This affordable beauty gem will run you between $3-6 dollars at most drug stores. The mask and scrub works double time to detox the skin. First, naturally purifying Activated Charcoal helps absorb oil and impurities without over-drying. Then, Black Sugar helps exfoliate away dulling skin cells for softness and clarity.
How To Use It:
I like to wet my face before applying the mask. I apply a generous amount to the tips of my fingers and apply the mask on to my face. After I've applied the mask I like to gently rub it for 2 minutes as a scrub and then I leave it on my face for an additional 10-15 minutes. Unlike other masks I've tried, this mask will not leave your face hard. If you don't like the feeling of hardening then you will enjoy using this. Your face will feel slightly warmer.  When the time is up, I use a warm wash cloth to remove the product, and then I splash my face with cold water after everything is removed. Your skin will feel super spots and squeaky clean. Afterwards I usually apply tea tree oil in place of a moisturizer and I'm all done!

Freeman Feeling Beautiful Facial Polishing Mask (Charcoal & Black Sugar):
Pros:
- Helps repair the skin - helps reduces the appearances of pores and dark spots
- Reduces acne/pimples/blemishes
- Scrub and Mask combo - Dual-Action Purifying Mask & Smoothing Exfoliant
- Smells really good
- Affordable
Not tested on animals
- Perfect for all skin types

Cons:
- Doesn't harden (some people believe it's more of a scrub than a mask)
- Causes a warm sensation
- The scrub can be a little harsh on the skin, rub slowly and carefully

Final thoughts:  I have no interest in using the Aztec Clay Facial every week! That mask is a product I would use maybe 1-2 times a month because it's super intense. What's great about the Freeman mask is that you can use this product every day or every other day if you wanted to. It's a great scrub/mask combo. I didn't experience any intense redness or irritation after using it. Since I have combination skin this product has done an excellent job reducing the oil in my skin. It smells great and because it does not harden I'm comfortable walking around my apartment cooking, cleaning, etc without feeling like I need to sit completely still and not move for 10 mins.

If you want to test this product before purchasing the entire amount, you can buy a sample size for only $1.99 CLICK HERE.
